- This triennial award is made in recognition of outstanding work which, through biochemical advances, leads to development of a new reagent or method.
- Sponsored by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, for work carried out in a UK or Irish Republic laboratory, the award carries a honorarium of £3,000.
- The awardee is asked to give the lecture at a meeting of the Society.
- The lecture is published in Biochemical Society Transactions.
